It is an irony that the greatest part of Adoniram’s time was spent labouring in the study when the great love of his life was preaching. He was increasingly frustrated by a chronic lung complaint, whereby any exertion of his voice led to dangerous spitting of blood. Whenever opportunity arose due to a break in the translation work, and when his health allowed, Adoniram revelled in village evangelism. But one of his cherished convictions was that the indigenous workers were ultimately far more effective than foreign missionaries, and he had the joy of training and using Burmese preachers and evangelists.I have been working closely with Ganpurev training him in the study of the Bible and the preparation of Bible lessons and sermons. It is a joy to see him study with such diligence and to watch as the Holy Spirit illuminates his mind in ways that I never could. As you pray, please remember to pray for the nationals to have the vision and preparation to lead Mongolian churches into the future.

Missions quote
I read the following quote recently in an e-mail that Dr. Cummins of Baptist World Mission send out in his "weekly epistle."

Have you wondered where I've been?
It has been a while since I posted much to my blog. Have you wondered where I've been? I could blame it on writer's block or carpal tunnel syndrome or plain laziness. But I am writing again and hope to update my blog four times this week and again next week to make up for some of the missing posts.
I'll have an update with details about Sunday tomorrow. Today, I'd like to leave you with a quote from Adoniram Judson. If you have never read a biography of Judson's life, let me suggest To the Golden Shore by Courtney Anderson. After reading such a biography, I could never say that my ministry in Mongolia has been difficult. But back to his quote. Judson once said, “If they ask you what promise of ultimate success is here, tell them, ‘as much as that there is an Almighty and Faithful God Who will perform His promises.’… And if that does not satisfy them, beg them to let me stay here and try it.” It is an amazing quote, especially in light of his life's story.
